My research focuses on three primary areas. First, I examine the white supremacist movement in the United States and Canada, analyzing a large dataset of text to understand how white supremacists discuss and engage in activism. I explore the factors that lead individuals to actualize their racist beliefs online and participate in high-risk, high-cost activism.
Secondly, I look at the propagation of disinformation and violent content on the internet in far-right spaces, and the potential these have to lead to real world violence. Finally, my third line of research looks at right-wing populism, its effects on democracy and its global spread.
